Let's start of by saying that I absolutely LOVE music! Especially Neo-Soul, Trap and Gospel whenever I need my daily inspiration. Listen, for the longest I use to try to hide my guilty pleasure for trap music Growing up, I was ALWAYS in church! Especially whenever school was out for the Summer! Even went to church throughout the week. . . But still, something about trap music that I love! I am literally that girl that grew up in the suburbs and have no clue about the whole "trap lifestyle" but I do enjoy listening to what the artist has to say. Usually, trap rappers are rapping about their struggles in life and how they make something out of nothing. *shrugs* It's something about hustling and making something out of nothing so...Amazing to me lol.. call me cliche' but I know for a fact I'm not the only one who feels this way. I am most definitely not the partying type but throughout my freshman year of college, I've had my fun share of kick-backs and parties on campus! I can not count how many times people would look at me weird whenever a 21 Savage song came on and I rapped the entire song! or even better...

It is easy to misconstrue the understanding of life, it is sometimes even seen as a “blurr” and hard to comprehend. Through everyday life we see and experience different things and issues. Personally, I battle with being a double minority which is common in America. First being black, then, being a black woman! Everyday I am exposed to different opinions and stereotypes. Many people create stereotypes about others without even knowing them personally. This is when I ask you “What’s Behind the Blurred Lens?”. The Blurred Lens consist of stereotypes, opinions and theories others may create without even knowing the individual. Just think about it, whenever you are looking through a lens that is blurry, you see the person but not clearly. This is the issue we have today and it’s NOT acceptable. People get so use to society and what they think is acceptable that they forget about who they are. Once an individual loses themselves to society, it is extremely hard to gain them back as a person. Honestly, I say.. FORGET ABOUT SOCIETY! Forget about the Blurred Lens! Be the person you want to be regardless of what others think. You have to focus on YOU! And I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have anything to deal with society’s perspective of things. It is time to live life to the fullest… on your own terms!
Because of the Blurred Lens, many people take their lives because they feel like they’re not accepted. But who says you have to be accepted? shaking my head How do you feel about the Blurred Lens that many people look through? Do you think that is can be changed? or even disregarded as a whole ? I understand the concept of “acceptance” but sometimes folks can get tangled up in that theory. Being accepted is cool, however, it shouldn’t be forced, everything should move naturally… and if it isn’t, it’s not meant to be. Shrugs Just be yourself! Love yourself! Don’t think of what others thinks of you… college is what you make it !
WOW! I can not believe that my first year of being a college student is almost over! 2 more months and I will be a college sophomore!!! GEESH!
This blog is specifically for my Juniors and Seniors in HIGH School! So let's get straight to it.. Just last year around this time, I was over high school and could not wait to graduate. I looked at my COUNTDOWN App everyday and aggravated my friends about how close we were to graduation. Everyone was excited about entering the next chapter of our lives but little did we know what we'd experience once we got to college. Honestly, I did not know what to expect, I kind of went into college "blindfolded". However, over time I learned the flow of campus life and life in general. I became more familiar with different people, a different culture and different environment! I had experienced an entire culture shock! I was not use to hearing the different slang and dialect! But.. I adjusted and later fell in love with the new environment :) Here are a few tips all incoming Freshmen: 1. DO NOT BRING YOUR ENTIRE LIFE TO COLLEGE! YOU WON'T NEED IT! ( Once it was time for me to move out, I brought EV-ER-RY-THANNG! Literally, I brought 52 pair of shoes and out of those 52 I wear 3 pair. It's sad! I don't know what I was thinking when I brought majority of my shoes with me. ROTFL! Plus! it's not enough room! Do not bring you're entire life to college.) 2. DO NOT STRESS OVER FRIENDSHIPS!! ( I can not stress this enough! FRIENDS COME AND GO! DUH! Friends are always nice to have but they can also be a distraction if you don't have the discipline. Being in college is so much fun, especially if you're grades are straight! Having fun in college is almost a necessity lol.. however, prioritize!! Having fun is cool but only turn up / wild out on weekends. Don't go TU and you know you're paper is incomplete and it's due the next morning. *rolls eyes* School should always be your number 1 priority! Remember the reason you are enrolled in college and I'm pretty sure it isn't to party or focus of "friendships") 3. REMEMBER, EVERYONE WAS BROUGHT UP DIFFERENTLY ( You will be introduced to so many different personalities, do not be shocked if someone is different! I know that sounds crazy right? but you will be surprised. Many people do not know how to react to other people who have a different backgrounds or upbringing. However, that's the beauty of college, meeting new people with different backgrounds! I love it! ) 4. GO TO CLAAASSSSSSS!!!!! ( Going to class should be done without saying but someitimessssss..... *whew* It is HARD to even roll out of bed to go to that 9am class. Smh, IDK how I even do it but it gets done. Depending on the professor, attendance is mandatory and other professors could care less. Some professors have the mindset that they could care less if you show up or not, they're still getting paid. *shrugss* Also, if you are struggling at the end of the semester, the professor may try to help you out, they'll look at the attendance and see that you've been to class which shows that you are at least trying! moral of the story, GO TO CLASS, you're paying for it! Sleeping in is so not cool, you could sleep for FREE!) 5. DO NOT MISS THE MEAL PLAN ( IF your institution is anything like mine, it will be very easy to miss meal plan and end up starving! lol.. On weekday's the meal plan ends at 8:30pm, however, on weekends it ends at 6pm. 6pm seems late but somehow I have managed to miss meal plan on many occasions and end up trying to find something to eat later and destroying it or order out, which is ADDITIONAL money I could have saved if I went to the Cafe') That's all I have you guys! I hope this was helpful ! Welcome College Students of 2021 :) |
